Chicago's Naomy Grand'Pierre Competes in 50-meter Freestyle at Rio Olympics

University of Chicago swimmer Naomy Grand'Pierre made her Olympic debut on Friday afternoon by swimming in the 50-meter freestyle prelims at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Grand'Pierre, who is a rising sophomore on the Maroon swimming and diving team, was selected to the Olympics as Haiti's first female swimming representative. In the 50-meter freestyle prelims, she was placed into the fifth out of 12 heats. Grand'Pierre finished second in her heat with a time of 27.46. That mark placed her 56th out of 88 athletes who swam the event. The top 16 times advanced to the semifinals.
