NYU Remains Undefeated With Victory Over NCAA Division I Bucknell

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's swimming & diving team defeated Bucknell University 151-149 on Sunday, November 20, in a meet hosted by Columbia University in Manhattan.

Facing a NCAA Division I opponent for the first time this season, the Violets raised their record to 4-0.

"Our ladies really stepped up today and swam and dove unbelievably," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "It was awesome to see them get up and race and dive against Division I competition and come out with the win."

In a hotly-contested affair, each team won seven swimming events, but NYU won both of the diving events to help squeeze out the victory. Ashlie Pankonin won the one-meter dive (258.85) and Carmen White took the three-meter (293.15).

"Carmen had probably her best three-meter dive of the year," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "Ashlie was just so solid in the one-meter, making the zone qualifying score for the second time."

Noel Leung won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.43) and 100-yard freestyle (53.29), and was a member of both the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:46.75) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.72).

Elise Gibbs won the 50-yard freestyle (24.27) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.03), and was also part of the winning relays.

Julien Zhu won the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.35, NCAA "B" cut) and was second in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.88) and 200-yard IM (2:09.20).

"I'm impressed by what we accomplished today and am extremely excited for our next competition at MIT," Miele explained.
