Haley Wen of NYU Posts NCAA B Time At Kenyon Meet

From NYU Athletics

Haley Wen of the New York University women's swimming & diving team competed at the Kenyon Last Chance Meet at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, on Saturday, February 18.

Wen posted a time of 17:04.61 in her 1,650-yard freestyle time-trial, good enough for an NCAA-B cut time. The sophomore shaved 15 seconds off of her season-best time and finished 11 seconds faster than the invited time for last season's NCAA Championship meet.

"I knew she had it in her. When she puts her mind to something she's absolutely going to do it," said Assistant Coach Erica Belcher. "I'm excited to see her get back to training for the next month to hopefully have better swims at the NCAA's."

The Columbia, MO, native was able to almost-certainly secure a spot at the NCAAs despite encountering extensive travel delays the night before today's swim.

"We arrived to the hotel at 1:00 AM and then 12 hours later she qualified for nationals," recounted Belcher. "It was a pretty amazing performance."
