Four Yellowjackets Finish in Top-16 in 1,650 Freestyle

Distance swimmers were front and center for the University of Rochester women's team at the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. Rochester had three women place in the to nine of the 1,650 freestyle and four in the top 16.

The 1,650 is the only race at the University Athletic Association championships that does not run as a trials session in the afternoon and a finals session that night.

Jennifer Enos finished sixth in the distance race (18:04.49). Tess Minigell was eighth (18:09.16), Mari Mitrovsky ninth (18:17.18), and Katie Konopka was 16th (19:32.47).

The Yellowjackets had finalists in four other swimming events in addition to the one meter diving board.

Three women placed in the top nine for the 200 fly. Shannon Cahalan was ninth (2:09.64, just :01.06 out of a top eight spot), Annie Thayer was 18th (2:12.63), and Anna Mucci was 24th (2:14.23).

Rochester had three finals qualifiers in the 200 backstroke: Erica Hughes was 12th (2:07.95), Madison Saliba 17th (2:10.27), and Julia Herman 23rd (2:11.90).

Becca Selznick (17th, :53.36) and Emily Simon (24th, :53.90) finished in the top 24 in the 100 freestyle. In the 200 breaststroke, Alex Veech was 16th (2:28.79) and Monica Jackson was 18th (2:28.89). 

On the one meter board, Danielle Neu goes into Saturday finals with a score of 408.30 which placed her fourth. Jenna Zhang was 12th (309.20), Paige Hayward 13th (296.65).
