Yellowjackets Push Win Streak To Six With Three Wins at Grove City

The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team stretched its win streak in dual matches to six with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday at Grove City College.

Rochester (8-1), defeated host Grove City 198-102, Division II Gannon University 193.5-100.5 and UAA rival Case Western Reserve University 190-110 in the pool, aided by nine event wins and a slew of other top performances.

Diver Danielle Neu and swimmers Tess Minigell and Becca Selznick were all double-winners for the Yellowjackets on Saturday while Marija Mitrovski, Alex Veech and Monica Jackson were each solo winners.

Neu captured both diving events, winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter boards.  She scored a 243.31 on the 3 meter and then topped teammate Jill Gingher in the 1 meter with a score of 249.05.  Gingher scored just under 20 points behind at 230.70. 

Minigell showed her versatility, winning the 200 fly in 2:12.03 and also touching first in the 500 freestyle in 5:17.01.  She also ended second in the 200 freestyle to her teammate Selznick who won in 1:56.46.

Selznick also was first in the 100 free (54.17) and was on UR's third place 200 free relay squad.  That group swam a time of 1:40.39 and featured Caitlynn Weeden, Stephanie Chen and Emily Simon.  Rochester's 200 medley relay of Erica Hughes, Anna Mucci, Veech and Simon placed 2nd in a time of 1:50.65.

Rochester also got wins from Mitrovski in the 1000 freestyle (11:11.72), Veech in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.28) and Jackson in the 200 breast (2:26.76).

Other top results for the Yellowjacket women included a runner-up from Mitrovski in the 500 freestyle and Jennifer Enos in the 1000 free.  Hughes also earned two second place finishes, coming in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events  Jackson ended runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.15 while Caroline Wu-Silvera was 3rd in the 100 backstroke.
