10 Different Winners Lead Yellowjackets Past Nazareth

The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team swept four events 1-2-3 and tallied 14 wins total in a 210-89 win over Nazareth College on Saturday.

Overall the Yellowjackets (9-1) showcased their great depth, with 10 different winners on the day in addition to two relay victories.  The loss drops Nazareth's dual meet record to 4-3.

In diving, senior Danielle Neu captured both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.  Overall, Neu scored a pool record 284.69 points on the 3-meter and was first with her 1-meter score of 265.42 as well.  Teammate Jill Ginger was 3rd on the 1-meter with her score of 222.82 and Paige Haward placed 3rd on the 3-meter with a mark of 224.62 in the six dive meet.

Joining Neu as a double-winner in individual events was freshman Erica Hughes who wound up capturing first place in the 50 freestyle (:28.72) and in the 100 backstroke (1:09.38).

The first of UR's top-3 sweeps came in the 400 meter medley relay.  The team of Madison Saliba, Alyssa Gardiner, Shannon Cahalan and Becca Selznick touched first in a time of 4:41.09.  UR's 'B' and 'C' relays captured the next two slots.

To close out the meet, the 400 freestyle relay team of Marija Mitrovski, Stephanie Chen, Tess Minigell and Khamai Simpson was first to the wall in 4:17.70.

The second 1-2-3 finish for UR's women on Saturday came in the 100 meter butterfly.  In that event, Anna Mucci finished first in 1:10.95, Annie Thayer was second in 1:11.10 and Gardiner finished third in 1:11.81.

That feat was then duplicated in the 100 meter freestyle by Caitlynn Weeden (1st, 1:03.29), Simpson (2nd, 1:04.72) and Chen (3rd, 1:04.76) and then in the 50 meter butterfly by Monica Jackson (1st, :31.41), Mucci (2nd, :31.66) and Selznick (3rd, :31.86).

In four other events, the Yellowjackets took home first and second positions.  Those came in the 800 freestyle, courtesy of Minigell and Jennifer Enos, the 50 backstroke with performances from Saliba and Julia Herman, the 100 backstroke by Hughes and Herman and then in the 200 IM where Cahalan and Thayer went 1-2.  Alex Veech also ended up first in the 100 breaststroke and Enos won the 400 freestyle.
