Emily Simon Claims Two of Rochester's Five Swim Wins on Saturday

Emily Simon won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events to highlight five outright swimming victories for the University of Rochester women in a dual-double meet with Canisius College and Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon.

As in past years, every event was scored straight up: first, second, third, etc. Points were awarded based on how schools compared with each other. In a race won by Rochester with Canisius second and third, and Brandeis fourth, in the UR-Brandeis pairing, Rochester received points for a first place finish and Brandeis earned second place points.

Canisius defeated Rochester, 161-138. Rochester defeated Brandeis, 227-62, and Canisius defeated Brandeis, 233-56.

Rochester's other individual winners were Marija Mitrovski in the 1,650 freestyle (18:18.00), Erica Hughes in the 100 backstroke (1:00.39), and Shannon Cahalan in the 200 butterfly (2:14.90) in addition to Simon's victories.

Simon won the 50 free in :25.11 and the 100 free in :54.86. Caitlynn Weeden was second in the 100 free (:55.60).

The Yellowjackets had a smattering of second place finishes on the afternoon. Tess Minigell was second in the 1,650 freestyle (18:27.20) and the 500 free (5:22.00). Mitrovski was third in the 500 free (5:24.70), and Jennifer Enos was fourth in that race (5:37.20).

Hughes was second in the 200 backstroke (2:12.72). Monica Jackson was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.86), Alex Veech second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.24) and Anna Mucci second in the 100 fly (1:02.37) with Becca Selznick fourth (1:02.81).

The 200 free relay was second overall, timed in 1:40.11 (Stephanie Chen, Weeden, Selznick, and Simon). 

Danielle Neu hit the NCAA qualifying score on the three-meter board for the first time this year. If she hits the mark again, she will be invited to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships later in the season. Neu earned that mark with a 269.8 result to win the three-meter board. Jenna Zhang was fifth for Rochester (210.9), and Paige Hayward was sixth (205.1).

On the one-meter board, Neu was second overall (250.8) with Gillian Gingher fifth (188.5), and Hayward sixth (184.4).
