Liz Feller Leads Brandeis at Duke

The Brandeis women's fencing team dropped four matches - three against nationally-ranked teams today at the 2018 Duke Invitational.

The Judges opened with a 22-5 loss to #3 Penn State. In round two, they picked up their first squad victory, 6-3 for epee against #7 Temple, the Judges suffered a 19-8 defeat. In their third round of the day, they took a 24-3 defeat at the hands of the 10th-ranked host Blue Devils. The day ended with the closest match of the weekend for the women, as Brandeis got their second weapon victory of the day with the foil squad defeating North Carolina, 6-3. The Tar Heels took the other two weapons, 7-2, to clinch a 17-10 victory.

For the day, the top performer for the Judges was senior Liz Feller (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson). In the first three matches of the day, Feller went 7-2 in epee, including a 3-0 sweep against Temple and 2-1 against Penn State and Duke. In the North Carolina match, Feller went 1-1 as she switched to saber, finishing the day at 8-3 overall.

Junior Joanne Carminucci (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) led the foil squad with four victories. She, sophomore Jessica Gets (Morganville, NJ / Marlborough) and junior Renee Pite (Woodbridge, Conn. / Amity Regional) each went 2-1 in the UNC match. Senior Laura Broffman's (East Norwich, N.Y. / Oyster Bay) two wins paced the saber squad.
