The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving program opened the Miami Invitational Thursday night, posting a collective 10 NCAA B Cuts. The Eagles sit in second place following one day of action with 246 points, trailing only the host Red Hawks by 232 points.
Emory claimed three event titles on day one of the invitational, winning the 200 Freestyle Relay, the 500 Freestyle and the 50 Freestyle.
Juniors Fiona Muir, Meg Taylor, sophomore Caroline Olson and freshmen Lucy Daro began the evening's finals session with a time of 1:32.59 in the 200 Free Relay. Senior Cindy Cheng followed with the Eagles' second win of the night, posting a time of 4:51.43 to earn top honors in the 500 Free. Taylor collected her second first place showing on Thursday and first event title, touching at 23.32 to win the 50 Free.
Adding NCAA qualifying marks for Emory on day one of the Miami Invitational were sophomore Maria Turcan (6th, 4:59.44) and senior Julia Wawer (10th, 5:00.24) in the 500 Free; senior Ming Ong (5th, 2:03.40), junior Julia Durmer (10th, 2:03.02) and junior Ashley Daniels (2:06.49, prelims) in the 200 IM; and Muir (3rd, 23.44) in the 50 Free.
Cheng, Daniels, Ong and Muir rounded out day one with a third place finish in the 400 Medley Relay, clocking in with a NCAA B Cut time of 3:45.62.
Day two of the Miami Invitational features the 200 Medley Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 AM with the finals starting at 6:00 PM. The meet will be broadcasted live with FloSwimming and can viewed here.
