Emory Women's Swimming & Diving Captures Two Event Titles, Breaks Two NCAA Records to Open DIII Championships

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team captured two event titles to open the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday while setting a pair of NCAA Division III records.

Through one day of competition, the Eagles are setting the pace with 146 points, followed by Kenyon College in second at 118 points and Williams College in third at 114.

Junior Fiona Muir became the first Eagle to win a national title at this year's meet as she won the 50 Freestyle for the first time in her career after finishing as the national runner-up as both a freshman and sophomore. Muir also shined during preliminaries as she broke the NCAA Division III record, turning in a time of 22.48, .24 seconds faster than her finals mark of 22.72.

The Eagles added a national championship to wrap up the evening as seniors Cindy Cheng, Megan Campbell and juniors Hannah Lally and Meg Taylorearned top honors in the 200 Medley Relay, posting a NCAA Division III record time of 1:40.12. The win marks the 11th-consecutive relay victory at nationals for the Eagles dating back to 2016 as well as the third straight and fifth overall in the event in team history.

Emory saw five additional All-America performances on Wednesday led by senior Rebecca Upton (3rd, 4:49.12) and sophomore Maria Turcan (5th, 4:52.97) in the 500 Freestyle, senior Ming Ong (7th, 2:03.27) in the 200 IM, and Taylor (4th, 23.09) and senior Julia Wawer (5th, 23.14) in the 50 Freestyle.

Juniors Julia Durmer (9th, 2:02.39) and Ashley Daniels (11th, 2:03.36) were Honorable Mentions in 200 IM to round out the Emory award winners on the night.
