NYU Takes Fall Invitational Over Stevens

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's swimming team captured the NYU Fall Invitational, which the Violets hosted on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan.

The Violets totaled 573 over the two days, comfortably defeating second-place Stevens Institute of Technology (295 points).

On Saturday's second day of action, NYU swept the individual events, as six Violets - juniors Grace Wakabayashi (1,650-yard freestyle) and May Li (100-yard backstroke), sophomores Olivia Kirkpatrick (100-yard freestyle) and Honore Collins (200-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM) freshmen Sydney Catron (200-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle) and Ashley Heinemen - earned first-place finishes. In addition, the team of Catron, Kirkpatrick, Collins and Li won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

"Overall, we had some really good performances," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "Many freshmen really stepped up today."

The NYU divers also competed on Saturday, though in a separate event. The Violets' Carmen White won both the one-meter (306.83) and three-meter (274.36) dives, with newcomer Ashlyn King right behind her in second with scores of 263.63 and 267.08, respectively.

"We are finally at the point in the season where we are competing our harder dives, and it paid off today," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "Carmen and Ashlyn had their best meets of the young season."
