NYU Sits Second At UAA Championships

The New York University women's swimming & diving team is in second place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming & Diving Championships, which are being held Wednesday-Saturday, February 14-17, at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets have 901 points, ahead of third-place University of Chicago (881.5) and trailing leaders Emory University (1,461).

"The swimmers really stepped up tonight and swam extremely well, individually and relays," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We had many NCAA-qualifying times and personal bests. We have been getting stronger as the meet has gone on."

Sydney Catron was NYU's top individual finisher on the night, capturing fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.23). She was also a member of the third-place 200-yard medley relay team (1:44.38) along with May Li, Honore Collins and Erica Yuen, as well as the second-place 800-yard medley relay team (7:37.52) with Collins, Haley Wen and Grace Wakabayashi.

Carmen White captured the UAA Championship in the three-meter diving competition with 511.05 points. Teammate Ashlyn King took third (488.55).

"All three divers had a great meet today capped by Carmen's second win," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "I'm so pleased with how they have performed over this week!"

HIGHLIGHTS

- Yuen finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (56.80).

- Collins captured sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.93).

- Li took seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (56.63).
