NYU Takes 2nd At UAA Championships

The New York University women's swimming & diving team finished in second place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, which were held Wednesday-Saturday, February 14-17, at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets finished the competition with 1,246.50 points, just ahead of third-place Carnegie Mellon University (1,213.50). Host Emory won the title wih 2,049 points. 

NYU's Sydney Catron captured second place in the 200-yard backstroke in a NYU-record time of 2:00.22. She was named UAA Rookie of the Year for her efforts throughout the Championships.

A trio of Violets, Jaime Robinson (17:15.41), Grace Wakabayashi (17:20.62) and Haley Wen (17:23.17), finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

"I am really proud of the team's effort this weekend, as well as all year," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "They worked hard all year long and it was fantastic to see them swim so well this weekend."

Diver Carmen White, who won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events during the week, was named UAA Diver of the Year.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Rachel Munger took seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.18).

- Katie Hollenbeck placed seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.14).

- Honore Collins, Catron, May Li, and Hannah Bergh combined to place sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:29.50).
