The New York University women's swimming & diving team began competition at the 2018 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Wednesday, February 14, at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

The women's one-meter dive was the only event on Wednesday's Opening Day, and it was a Violet who captured the gold.

Sophomore Carmen White, after taking the top spot in the preliminaries with a score of 485.30, came back in the evening's final and totaled 484.15 points to again best the field.

Fellow underclassman, freshman Ashlyn King, took sixth place with a score of 407 points after finishing sixth (399.55) in the preliminaries.

"It was a great way for NYU to begin the event," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "To have Ashlyn and Carmen finish in the top six and then to have Carmen win it all in the finals was awesome. She was focused and as good as I've ever seen her."

One other Violet competed, sophomore Claire Liu, who took 18th place (271.65 points).
