Rochester Takes First in Every Event in Tri-Meet Sweep at Home

From University of Rochester Athletics

Get in front and stay there. That was an easy philosophy for the women's swimming and diving team to follow on Saturday as the Yellowjackets produced a highly successful result in their home opener.

In 16 events, the Yellowjackets won both diving boards, had nine swimming winners, one outright relay win, posted exhibition successes in three more individual events and one relay race. It all amounted to a 158-119 victory over Alfred University and a 159-102 win over Fredonia.

Erica Hughes and Caity Weeden were double winners for Rochester individually. Hughes was first to the wall in the 100 (1:01.26) and 200 (2:14.44) backstrokes. Weeden finished first in the 50 free (:25.32) and the 100 free (:55.61).

Paige Hayward was first on the three meter board (199.00) and the one meter board (194.25).

The other individual winners were Tess Minigell in the 1,000 free (11:08.98), Becca Selznick in the 200 free (1:57.65), Monica Jackson in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.49), Annie Thayer in the 200 fly (2:16.75), and Anna Cook in the 100 fly (1:04.22).

Rochester opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Sydney Shannon, Sofia Guarnieri, Jackson, and Emma Dowd was timed in 1:55.80.

The 200 free relay closed the meet and Rochester swam that as an exhibition. The quartet of Shannon Kearney, Minigell, Lilly Kossoff, and Guarnieri had a time of 1:44.80.

Rochester's other swimmers who competed on an exhibition basis – and had strong times – were Amina N'Gambwa in the 200 IM (2:17.87), Tori Geller in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.46), and Emily Brzac in the 500 free (5:31.04).
