Rochester Moves into Third Place at Ithaca Invitational

After three sessions competing at the Ithaca College Invitational, the University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team sits firmly in third place out of 11 teams. The Yellowjackets moved up one spot from the morning session when they stood in fourth. The Yellowjackets have accumulated 621 points. Cornell University leads with 1,701, SUNY Geneseo is second (827), and Rochester is third (621) with Springfield close by in fourth place (613).
 
Morning Session:
UR's success was fashioned on a fifth place finish individually in the 100 butterfly by Monica Jackson (:58.00) with Shannon Cahalan 12th (1:00.19) plus a fifth place finish by the 200 free relay and a sixth place clocking from the 400 medley relay.
 
Erica Hughes led off both relays. The 200 free was timed in 1:40.46 and she was joined by Sofia Guarnieri, Caity Weeden, and Becca Selznick.
 
Three of those women swam on the closing 400 medley relay (4:03.04 – Hughes, Guarnieri, Jackson, and Weeden).
 
Individually, Cahalan was Rochester's top finisher in the 400 IM (4:42.52) with Anna Cook 11th (4:46.22), and Annie Thayer 12th (4:48.07). Selznick finished 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:55.83).
 
Evening Session:
Three women placed in the top eight in different events and the 800 free relay also produced a third place time.
 
Hughes was fourth in the 100 backstroke (:59.32) with Kelsey Bartlett eighth (1:00.8). Cahalan was UR's first to the wall in the 200 butterfly, touching in 2:07.89. Thayer was 10th (2:14.05) and Tess Minigell was tied for 12th (2:14.40). Jackson was 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.69).
