Rochester Wins Six Events Against RIT

The University of Rochester women's swimming and diving team captured five individual events – dominated the 200 fly – and posted runner-up finishes in seven other races in a meet at Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. The hosts squeezed out a 150.5-149.5 victory. Rochester is 6-4 in dual meets this season.
 
Erica Hughes, Annie Thayer, Monica Jackson, Becca Selznick, and Anna Cook were the event champions for the Yellowjackets. Hughes and Selznick were part of the winning 200 free relay that concluded the meet, giving them two wins on the day.
 
The Yellowjackets were particularly strong in the 100 backstroke, the 200 fly, the 200 breaststroke, the 500 free, and the 200 IM – all of which they won.
 
UR claimed the first three places in the 200 fly behind champion Thayer (2:14.73), runner-up Shannon Cahalan (2:16.54), and Jackson, who was third (2:18..01). Jackson later won the 200 breaststroke (2:33.74) and was the runner-up in the 100 fly (1:02.19) followed by Shannon Cahalan (1:02.40) in third and Amina N'Gambwa in fourth (1:02.57).
 
In the 100 backstroke, Hughes got to the touchpad first (1:01.94) with Kelsey Bartlett second (1:02.91) and Julia Herman fourth (1:03.53). Selznick was the 500 free winner (5:21.49). Tess Minigell was third there (5:32.00) and was second in the 1,000 free (11:18.12) with Emma Dowdthird in that race (11:38.51).

Cook won the 200 IM in 2:15.52 with Alyssa Gardiner third (2:19.36).
 
Selznick finished second in the 200 free (1:57.45). Third place points went to Caitlynn Weeden (2:02.48). Weeden was second in the 100 free (:56.55).
 
Rochester finished 2-3-4 in the 100 breaststroke. Shivi Gunawardane was second (1:12.50), Tori Geller third (1:12.59), and Lilly Kossoff fourth (1:15.80).
 
Sofia Guarnieri and N'Gambwa were 2-3 in the 50 free (Guarnieri :25.60, N'Gambwa :25.74) and swam on relays. Guarnieri had the third leg of the 200 medley (1:53.79) which was second (Hughes, Jackson, and Selznick). Guarnieri swam leg two of the closing 200 free with Hughes, Selznick, and Weeden. That relay won in 1:41.30.
 
On the boards, Paige Hayward was third on the one meter (197.80) with Jenna Zhang fifth (159.85). Hayward was third on the three meter as well (206.25) with Zhang fifth (168.68).
