Becca Selznick Breaks Second Rochester Mark at UAA Championships

The Rochester women's swimming and diving team found success on the third day of the UAA championships hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The highlight once again was Becca Selznick, who tied a UR school record in the 200 freestyle during the prelims then broke the record in the finals.
 
Selznick swam to a ninth place finish in the day three prelims with a time of 1:53.90 tying the school record held by Lauren Bailey. She then went on to break the record in the finals with a time of 1:53.50. On day two, Selznick broke the Rochester school record in the 500 freestyle which gave her a 15th place finish in that event.
 
Monica Jackson also cracked the top ten and advanced with a tenth place finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.19. She placed 12th in the finals with a time of 57.06. Jackson also came away with an 11th place finish in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:06.57.
 
Rochester had a number of other swimmers advancing to the finals on day two. Erica Hughestook 13th place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.11 while Kelsey Bartlett also swam the 100 backstroke and took 22nd place in 59.86. Anna Cook found herself advancing with a 16th place finish in the 400 IM in a time of 4:40.17. Also advancing for Rochester was Sofia Guarnieri with a 22nd place finish in the 100 breaststroke. She finished with a time of 1:09.05.
 
In the finals Hughes came away with a 12th place finish in the 100 backstroke, hitting the wall at 57.94. Bartlett swam the same event in 59.80 and took 23rd in the finals. Cook finished 15th in the finals of the 400 IM in 4:40.08 while Thayer took 22nd in 4:43.36. Guarnieri finished 22nd in the finals of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.48.
 
Rochester also had two separate relay teams in the finals. In the 200 Medley relay, Hughes, Jackson, Selznick and Shivi Gunawardne finished in seventh place with a time of 1:48.73. In the 800 freestyle relay, Amina N'Gambwa, Tess Minigell, Emma Dowd and Caity Weeden took seventh place with a time of 7:55.60.
 
In the 3 meter dive, Paige Hayward placed 13th while Jenna Zhang took 17th in the preliminaries on day three.
