Emory University freshman Michelle Satterfield won the NCAA Division III singles draw at the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals on Saturday, becoming the fourth-different player in the program's history to claim a victory at the fall tournament.

Satterfield, who entered the tournament as the fourth-seeded player in the draw, defeated second-seeded Sonja Meighan of Washington and Lee University, coming from behind to claim a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Satterfield becomes the second-straight Eagle to win the D-III singles draw of the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals, after current senior Gabrielle Clark claimed the title last season.  It also marks the fifth time overall an Emory player has won the singles draw, as Satterfield joined Mary Ellen Gordon (2000 and 2002), Jolyn Taylor (2003) and Clark as past champions.  Gordon was the only other freshman in school history to claim the singles title, accomplishing the feat with her win in 2000. 

Later in the day, Satterfield advanced to the 'Super Bowl' along with the winners of the NCAA Division II, NAIA and Junior College singles draws.  Despite putting up a fight against the higher-level opponent, she eventually fell in three sets to Niriantsa Rosolomalala of Georgia Perimeter College, the Junior College draw winner, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.  Satterfield now stands at 8-1 in singles matches to start her collegiate career.

Also claiming a win on Saturday at the event was freshman Melissa Goodman, who defeated Ithaca College's Cristina Nunez in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to finish in seventh-place in the draw.  Goodman now stands at 5-3 in singles play this season.

Saturday's play concludes the Eagles' competition at the 2013 USTA/ITA Small College Nationals.  The rest of the Emory squad will be in action throughout the remainder of the weekend at the Southern Shootout in Piedmont Park.
