FORT MYERS, Fla. -- University of Chicago women's tennis player Megan Tang won the third-place match in the singles draw of the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships on Saturday.
In the third-place match, Tang defeated Sofia Vega (Texas Lutheran University) in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Previously, she opened play on Thursday with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Megan Humphreys (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater). In the semis on Friday, Tang lost 6-1, 6-0 to Michelle Satterfield (Emory University).
"Megan had a great tournament overall," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "She beat two very good players along the way and in her defeat, I feel like we learned a lot about what it's going to take in order to reach the next level. She's proud of her third-place finish and I'm proud of the way she competed, especially in today's match."
Tang earned selection to the tournament by virtue of winning the singles draw at the ITA Central Region Championships on Sept. 23. The junior is the top seed in the eight-player field of fellow regional champions. In 2012, she finished in fifth place at the National Small College Championships.
