#22 Brandeis Headed to UAA Fifth-Place Match With 8-1 Win over NYU

The Brandeis University women's tennis team, ranked 22nd in Division III, rolled past New York University by an 8-1 score for the second time this season, this time in the consolation semifinals of the University Athletic Association tournament at Sanlando Park in central Florida. 

Brandeis opened by taking two of three doubles matches. The No. 2 team of seniorsAllyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Marissa Lazar (Hewlitt, N.Y./Lynbrook) won for the ninth time in 10 matches, 8-4, while juniors Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Fla./Half Moon Bay) and Dylan Schlesinger (Miami, Fla./Palmetto) rolled to an 8-1 decision. The Violets took their only point of the match at No. 1, where Alison Wang and Mari Tzakis earned a 9-7 victory. 

In singles action, Brandeis did not drop a set. Junior All-American Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) won for the 11th time in 13 matches with a 6-2, 6-1, win over Wang, avenging her doubles loss. Bernstein earned her second point of the day at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 3, sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) was a 6-4, 6-1 victor, while Vandroff produced a second double win with the quickest match of the day. She dropped just two games, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 5, sophomore Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was a 6-2, 7-5, while classmate Sarita Biswas (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) opened with a 6-0 win and hung on to complete the sweep in a tiebreaker, 7-6, (7-4).
