Angela Pratt Competes at NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships Earning All-America Honors

Carnegie Mellon University junior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) competed at the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships Thursday, May 22.  It marked the second straight season Pratt appeared in the championships, as she competed in the doubles field a year ago. This year's championships are being held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.  

Pratt opened play with a three-set victory over Andrea Hammer of Chapman University.  The junior dropped the first set 6-4 before and trailed 3-2 in the second set before rattling off seven straight games and nine of 10 to win 6-3 and 6-1 in sets two and three to advance to the Round of 16.  

In the Round of 16, Pratt dropped a hard fought match to Kara Shoemaker of Williams College.  Pratt dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to the fourth-seeded Shoemaker.

Pratt's first round victory assured her of All-America recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The ITA awards All-American recognition to student-athletes on assorted criteria, including earning at least one win at the NCAA Singles Championships.
