The second-ranked and top-seeded Emory University Women's Tennis
Team shutout its second-straight opponent on Saturday, defeating
the 12th-ranked and fourth-seeded University of Chicago
9-0 to advance to the title match of the 2014 University Athletic
Association (UAA) Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The Eagles will take on second-seeded and nationally eighth-ranked
Carnegie Mellon University in the championship match on Sunday,
April 27th at 9:00 AM. Emory will be looking
for its 25th title in 27 years of conference
competition.
On Saturday, Emory senior Gabrielle Clark teamed with
freshman Michelle Satterfield to win 8-1 at first
doubles, tying Clark with Mary Ellen Gordon for second in school
history with 104 career doubles victories. Clark will be
aiming to tie the school record of 105 doubles wins, currently held
by Zahra Dawson, when she plays on Sunday.
Other Emory doubles wins came from sophomores Madison
Gordon and Beatrice Rosen at second doubles, 8-3,
and from senior Brenna Kelly and freshman Katarina
Su at third doubles, 8-4.
In singles action, Clark in the first match and Rosen in the
second match each claimed 6-2, 6-0 wins. Satterfield earned a
6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles, while freshman Melissa
Goodman at fourth singles and Gordon at fifth singles
each failed to drop a game, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Su rounded out the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at
sixth singles.
Emory now stands at 22-2 this season, two wins shy of the program
record. Chicago dropped to 10-9 with the loss.
