Brandeis Gets Back to .500 With 8-1 Win Over Simmons

 The 27th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team got back to the .500 plateau on the season, evening their record at 8-8 with their seventh win in the last eight matches with an 8-1 victory over Simmons College. The Sharks fall to 14-3 on the season and see an 11-match winning streak snapped.

The Judges took a 2-1 lead after doubles action. Senior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and rookie Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) won, 8-1, at first doubles, while junior Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and rookie Danielle Simms (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) won by the same score at third doubles. Simmons picked up their only win of the day at second doubles, where the tandem of Rachael Downey and Caroline Khoury were 8-4 winners. 

Brandeis did not drop a set at singles, including two matches in which they did not drop a game. Junior Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) won her third match in a row, and first of the season at third singles, by a 6-0, 6-0, score, while rookie Sarah Chung (Plano, Texas / Plano West Senior) contributed a double-bagel at sixth singles. 

Cohen was the team's only double-winner on the day, with her first career win at first singles, 6-3, 6-0. Senior Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif./Half Moon Bay) won at second singles, 6-3, 6-2. Rookie Charlotte Aaron (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia) played her highest match on the ladder this season and emerged with a 6-2, 6-4, win at fourth singles. Sophomore Sarita Biswas (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) rounded out the scoring at fifth singles with a 6-2, 6-2, victory.
