Tartans Move to 3-0 with 8-1 Win Against Oberlin

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted Oberlin College on Friday, October 3 for its third dual match of the year. The Tartans improved to 3-0 on the year with an 8-1 win against the 0-1 Yeowomen.

Rain in Pittsburgh moved the match indoors to The Club Monroeville. The Tartans started with a 2-0 advantage after the freshmen pair of Stacy Chang (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) along with the team of sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and freshman Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) both won 8-2. The senior combo of Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) and Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) earned the third point of the match for the Tartans with a 9-8 (7-3) win at No. 1 doubles.

Because Chang and Sidell finished their doubles match first, the were first on the court for singles play. Chang finished first with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while Sidell wasn't far behind with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to earn the match point for the team.

Sophomore Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) played No. 2 singles for the Tartans and won 6-3, 6-4 before freshman Kalyani Narayan (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

The final point of the match was won by Tartan junior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) who climbed back from one set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11) at No. 6 singles.
