Emory Players Seeded Fourth at USTA/ ITA Women’s Small College Nationals

The draws for the 2014 USTA/ ITA Small College Nationals have been released, with junior Beatrice Rosen selected as the fourth-seeded player in the singles draw, and the pairing of sophomore Katarina Su and freshman Anna Fuhr chosen as the fourth-seeded duo in the doubles draw.

Rosen will open play against Rebecca Ho of Washington University (Mo.) at 8:30 AM on Thursday, October 9th.  The semifinal and consolation matches of the singles draw will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 10th, with the championship and third-place matches at 8:30 AM on Saturday, October 11th, followed by the fifth- and seventh-place matches at 10:30 AM.

Rosen will face either Caroline Ward, the top-seeded singles player in the draw from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, or Ashnaa Rao from Johns Hopkins University in her second match.  Participants on the other side of the draw include Andrea Madrigal of La Verne, Kate Christensen of Vassar, Megan Humphreys of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the winner of a play-in match between Sofia Vega of Texas Lutheran and Courtney Lawless of Whitman.

Su and Fuhr will begin doubles action on Thursday at 1:00 PM against Emma Chow and Tess Trinka of Bowdoin, with semifinal and consolation matches to follow at 5:00 PM on Thursday.  The fifth-, seventh-, and third-place matches of the doubles draw will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, followed by the championship at 5:00 PM.

Su and Fuhr will face either top-seeded Caroline Ward and Katie Kuosman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, or Bridgid McGuire and Alicia Beck of Wisconsin-Whitewater in their second match.  First round matches on the bottom half of the draw include second-seeded Patricia Kirkland and Sonja Meighan of Washington and Lee against Laila Ed Dessouki and Carmen Lai of New York University, and third-seeded Megan Tang and Ariana Iranpour of Chicago against the winner of the play-in match between Trinity's Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz and Whitman's Courtney Lawless and Morgan Lawless.

In addition to the Division III draw, teams from Division II, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges will be competing as well.  The singles and doubles champions at each divisional level will then compete to become the overall "Super Bowl" champions, later in the weekend. The "Super Bowl" champions earn wild cards into the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships with the opportunity to win the culminating event held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

All matches at the USTA/ ITA Small College National Championships will be held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
