The Emory University women's tennis team opened its 2014-15 on a strong note, recording a number of impressive performances on the opening day of play at the USTA/ITA South Regional Championships.

The Emory singles corps turned in dominant play, with eight competitors advancing into the Round of 16 while registering an overall record of 15-1.  Sophomore Michelle Satterfield and junior Bea Rosen, seeded Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, each drew first-round byes and advanced to Saturday's action after earning second-round triumphs.  Satterfield bested Connor Thomas of Sewanee, 6-0, 6-1, while Rosen breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 verdict over Mary Massey of Rhodes College.  Next up for Satterfield is a test against Natalia Lopez of North Carolina Wesleyan while Rosen will tackle Taylor Childress of Sewanee.  Sophomore Katarina Su, the No. 5 seed, came away with two Friday triumphs, topping Agnes Scott's Claire Rinaldo, 6-2, 6-0, before rolling to a 6-1, 6-2, outcome over Isabella Graf of Methodist University.  Su, the owner of a 28-match singles winning streak, will confront Ashley Ford of Millsaps in the Round of 16.  Other Eagles notching a pair of wins included freshmen Julie Fowler, the No. 6 seed, and Anna Fuhr, the No. 7 seed, junior Marissa Levine, freshman Bridget Harding (No. 8 seed) and junior Catharine Harris.

The Eagles were perfect throughout doubles, with each of their five teams reaching the quarterfinals.  The top-seeded pairing of Satterfield and Harding advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-1 win over Berry College's Lauren Byrket and Mary Cerny after a first-round bye, while the second-seeded duo of Su and Fuhr raced to an 8-0 triumph over Agnes Scott's Taylor Lee and Camille Wilson in the second round.   Fuhr and Su will battle teammates Danielle Truitt and Marissa Levine in the quarters with the latter pair nailing down verdicts over teams from Oglethorpe and Methodist.  Other Emory tandems emerging with two wins on Friday included sophomore Michelle DeMeo and Rosen along with Fowler and junior Stephanie Loutsenko.
