The top-ranked Emory University Eagles faced their first three
NCAA Division III opponents of the spring season on Sunday
afternoon, claiming wins in each of the three contests at the
Woodruff Physical Education Center. Emory earned an 8-1 win over
Millsaps College, and 9-0 victories over both Agnes Scott College
and Oglethorpe University.
Emory has now won its last four matches to improve to 4-1 overall
for the season.
With steady rain falling throughout the day in Atlanta, all three
matches were played at the indoor facilities at the Woodruff P.E.
Center.
In the early against Millsaps, the Eagles swept the three doubles
matches, with an 8-2 win from sophomore Katarina Su and
freshman Anna Fuhr in the first match, and 8-0 victories
from the duos of sophomore Michelle DeMeo and
junior Beatrice Rosen at second doubles and
senior Danielle Truitt and junior Stephanie
Loutsenko at third doubles. Emory continued its strong play
into the singles contests, with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 win from
sophomore Michelle Satterfield at first singles, and 6-0,
6-0 victories from freshman Julie Fowler at third
singles, senior Catharine Harris at fourth singles,
junior Marissa Levine at fifth singles and Loutsenko at
sixth singles. Millsaps dropped to 1-1 on the year with the
loss.
Against Agnes Scott, Emory once again swept the doubles contests,
as Satterfield and freshman Bridget Harding picked up an
8-0 win at first doubles, followed by 8-1 wins from DeMeo and Rosen
at second doubles and Fowler and sophomore Bruna
Correa at third doubles. In singles play, Rosen picked up a
6-0, 6-1 win in the first match, while Fowler claimed a 6-0, 6-2
win at second singles. The rest of the four matches – with
Harris at third singles, Levine at fourth singles, Truitt at fifth
singles and Fuhr at sixth singles – were all 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The setback sent Agnes Scott to 0-2 on the campaign.
Emory made it a clean sweep of the doubles matches on the day,
with another three victories in the late contest against
Oglethorpe. Satterfield and Harding claimed an 8-1 win at first
doubles, followed by an 8-3 win for DeMeo and junior Madison
Gordon at second doubles, and an 8-1 win for Fowler and Correa
at third doubles. The Eagles would go on to win all six singles
matches as well, with victories from Satterfield at first singles
(6-1, 6-0), Su at second singles (6-0, 6-1), Harding at third
singles (6-0, 6-0), Harris at fourth singles (6-0, 6-0), Loutsenko
at fifth singles (6-1, 6-0) and Truitt at sixth singles (6-0, 6-0).
Oglethorpe dropped to 1-1 on the campaign with the loss.
