Laila El Dessouki of the New York University women's tennis team was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Player of the Week on Wednesday, April 15.

The NYU junior helped lead the Violets to two victories with her outstanding performances last week. 

In a 5-4 win over Hamilton College on Friday, April 10, El Dessouki paired with fellow junior Carmen Lai to produce a #1 doubles win (8-2). She followed that vperformance with a hard-fought comeback victory in three sets against over hamilton's Isabella Schoning in #3 singles (4-6, 6-2, 7-5).

On Saturday, April 11, against SUNY Geneseo El Dessouki and Lai were once again victorious at #1 doubles (9-7). In #3 singles, the El Dessoiki decisively defeated Amanda Rosati (6-4, 6-2).

It is the first ECAC weekly honor for the Giza, Egypt, native and the second weekly honor overall, as El Dessouki was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week during the 2014 fall season.
