The New York University women's tennis team defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology 8-1 on Wednesday, April 1, in Hoboken, NJ.
In #1 doubles, junior Carmen Lai and sophomore Laila El Dessouki continued their winning ways for NYU, defeating Stevens' Jessica Bourque and Alexis Connor 9-8 (5) to remain undefeated on the spring season. Senior Mark Tzakis and junior Madeline King followed that with a win at #2 doubles, and the Violets headed into singles play with a one-point lead.
NYU then dominated singles from start to finish, winning all six matches in straight sets to improve to 3-1 in dual matches this season.
The Ducks dropped to 11-5.
"It was a good performance from top to bottom," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- In addition to their doubles wins, Lai (#1), Tazkis (#2), El Dessouki (#3) and King (#4) also picked up singles wins.
- Senior Alexandra Ziarko (#5) and junior Jazmin Colling (#6) picked up the final two singles wins for NYU. Ziarko defeated Stevens' Katrina Guido 6-2, 6-2, while Colling defeated Lily Bruenjes 6-0, 6-1.
