Megan Tang and Ariana Iranpour of Chicago Finish Third at ITA National Small College Championships

University of Chicago women's tennis players Megan Tang and Ariana Iranpour took third place as a doubles tandem at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships on Friday.

Tang (Sr.) and Iranpour (Fr.) were the No. 3-seed in the women's doubles draw and played in the third-place match versus Emma Chow and Tess Trinka (Bowdoin College). UChicago won the first set handily 6-2, but Bowdoin took five-straight games to win the second set 6-3. The third set came down to a super tiebreak and the Maroons came away victorious, 10-8.

"Ariana and Megan jumped out quickly and were able to steal the first set before the other team knew what happened," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "In the second, Bowdoin made some adjustments that we didn't respond to and it got away from us a little. In the breaker, we got back to doing what we were good at, hitting through people and finding high-percentage openings, and were able to sneak out a win. It's encouraging that they were able to find ways to win this weekend and to also win two tiebreakers with the match on the line each time. Once we are able to refine each player's doubles skills, this team will improve by leaps and bounds and will continue to be a force on the national stage."
