The University of Chicago women's tennis team wrapped up the Midwest Invitational with a 6-3 loss to Washington University-St. Louis and an 8-1 win over Case Western Reserve University on Saturday.

The No. 15-ranked Maroons evened their season record at 8-8. The No. 11-ranked Bears improved to 11-4 and the No. 23-ranked Spartans dropped to 9-6.

The first match of the day pitted the Maroons against conference rival WashU. The two teams had previously met on March 1, with UChicago emerging with a 6-3 victory. This time around, WashU came on strong in doubles and took a 3-0 lead into singles play. The two sides then split the six singles matches, with UChicago getting wins from freshman Jasmine Lee at No. 3, junior Lucy Tang at No. 5 and junior Sruthi Ramaswami at No. 6.

"We battled hard in singles and gave ourselves a chance in doubles but couldn't quite get over the hump," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "I thought I got outcoached a bit in doubles when WashU made some adjustments from our previous match that I didn't see coming, but credit goes to them for executing their game plan. I know that with a solid week of preparation, we will be ready for what they're going to do. Our record might not show it, but we are improving in all areas and are ready for a final push."

The Maroons bounced back well in the second match of the day against another conference foe, Case Western Reserve. Previously, the Spartans beat UChicago 5-4 on February 7. The Maroons brushed off their earlier loss and came out firing in singles, sweeping all six spots en route to an 8-1 victory. The multiple winners included sophomore Tiffany Chen, freshman Courtney Warren and Lucy Tang.

"This is a resilient bunch and I'm proud of the way they responded to our loss earlier in the day," Tee said. "The team did a great job of bringing great energy and attitude to the court and we all did a great job of controlling our emotions throughout the match. It feels good to see some tan-gible improvements by avenging our earlier loss to Case this season. We are right where we want to be heading into the final few weeks of the season and look forward to achieving the rest of our goals."
