Five Rochester Players Reach Semifinals At Mary Hosking Invitational

The University of Rochester women's tennis team has at least one player into the semifinals of each of the four singles brackets after day one of the Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith College.
 
Junior Christine Ho (A singles), senior Cara Genbauffe and junior Molly Goodman (B singles), freshman Karianne Sretavan (C singles) and junior Leah Bowden (D singles) all went undefeated on Saturday in singles play and will play in semifinal matches on Sunday morning.
 
In doubles, Sretavan and sophomore Darby McCall also reached the semifinals of the B flight after winning their first two matches.
 
Ho was an 8-2 winner over Ithaca's Haley Kusak and then won 8-5 over William Smith's Hanna More to go 2-0 to start the 2014 season.  Teammate Dorothy Tai won her first round match in the A flight, but fell dropped a 8-3 decision in the 2nd round.
 
Goodman and Genbauffe will square off against one another in the B flight semis on Sunday.  Goodman was forced to win two matches Saturday, winning 8-3 and 9-7 while Genbauffe received a 1st round bye and then was a 9-8 winner.
 
In C singles, Sretavan won easily 8-3 over Maddie Overholt from Ithaca in the first round then battled to win 8-6 over St. Lawrence's Georgia Comber to reach the semifinals.  McCall won her first round match 8-1 before losing in round two.
 
Bowden was able to top her two opponents easily in the D flight, winning 8-2 and 8-4.
