Carnegie Mellon Ranked No. 6 in Nation; Fourth in Atlantic South Region

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team will open the spring season ranked among the top elite nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after earning the sixth spot in the season's first national poll. The No. 6 Tartans reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship for the fifth time in seven years last spring and return two All-Americans. The Tartans are also ranked fourth in the Atlantic South Region.

Individually, the Tartans have two players ranked nationally and two others regionally for their singles play while a doubles tandem also received national rankings. Senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) is ranked 16th in the nation and fourth regionally for her singles play. Joining Tsu in the national rankings is junior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) at 48th. Torres is ranked 12th in the region.  Sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) and freshman Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) rank 21st and 23rd, respectively, in the region.

The Tartans' doubles team that is ranked fourth nationally is the tandem of Sidell and junior Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel).  The duo won the ITA Southwestr Regional and are second in the region behind a pair from Emory University.
