The doubles pair of junior Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) were crowned doubles champions at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Tournament which concluded on Monday, September 28.

Pavia and Sidell were seeded second for the three-day tournament and on Monday defeated fourth-seeded Brooke Donnelly and Tessa Hill of Washington and Lee University, 8-4, in the semifinal round. The pair then rallied after falling 6-4 in the first set of the finals to defeat the number-one seed of Kait Brogan and Shelby Harris of the University of Mary Washington with 6-3, 6-4 scores in the second and third set.

The victory marks the first doubles championship for a Tartan duo since 2011 when Laura Chen and Courtney Chin won the regional title.

Also competing in the semifinals on Monday was senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) in the singles bracket. Like Pavia and Sidell, Tsu won her semifinals match. Tsu defeated Donnelly by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 score. In the championship, Tsu, a nine seed, was ousted by number-one seed, Ashnaa Rao of Mary Washington by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

Pavia and Sidell advance to the ITA National Small College Championships which will be held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina, on October 15-17.
