From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III, began its weekend with a 9-0 win over Allegheny College in Erie, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans improved to 4-0 on the season with the win, while Allegheny dropped to 2-4 for the campaign.
In doubles action, seniors Michelle Djohan and Surya Khadilkar defeated Andrea Brush and Mikaela Pope 8-1 at no. 1 doubles, while senior Taylor Sweeney and junior Jennifer Lowe claimed an 8-0 victory over Michaela Thompson and Heidi Mueller in the second doubles match. Freshman Jessica Liuand junior Kennedy Mulholland rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win in the third doubles contest over Kirstie Oravec and Abby Lange.
In singles action, Sweeney bested brush at first singles, 7-6 (6), 6-1, and Liu claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Pope at no. 2 singles. Also claiming singles wins for the Spartans on Saturday were Djohan at third singles, 6-0, 6-1 over Thompson, Khadilkar at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Mueller, sophomore Peyton Young at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Oravec, and senior Kaitlin Mills at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0 over Allie Grence.
The win was the fourth-straight to start the spring season for the Spartans, who have now won six-consecutive matches dating back to last year. Djohan, Khadilkar and Liu each improved to 4-0 in the spring in singles play with their wins on Saturday.
