Case Western Reserve University sophomore Nithya Kanagasegar advanced through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the 2015 USTA/ITA Central Region Championships on Sunday in Kalamazoo, Michigan, earning the right to play for the regional title on Monday morning.

Kanagasegar, the fifth seeded player in the draw, defeated teammate and 14thoverall seed Jessica Liu in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-2, before handing Chicago's Rachel Kim, seeded 10th in the singles draw, a 6-4, 7-5 defeat in the semifinals.

Kanagasegar will be bidding to become the first Case Western Reserve women's tennis player ever to win the singles draw at the USTA/ITA Fall Regional Championships on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., when she faces second-seeded Ariana Iranpour of the University of Chicago.  The winner of the match will advance to the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals in Sumter, South Carolina from October 15-18.

In doubles play on Sunday, Kanagasegar and senior teammate Sara Zargham saw their quest for a title come to an end, as the top-seeded duo was eliminated by an 8-6 loss to the third-seeded pairing of Aly Coran and Rebecca Ho of Washington University (Mo.), the eventual champions of the draw, in the semifinals.
