Emory Bests Division I Appalachian State for Fifth Consecutive Win

The second-ranked Emory University women's tennis program continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, beating Division I Appalachian State 6-1 for the team's fifth consecutive win. It is Emory's first win over a Division I opponent since defeating Bryant University on March 15th, 2012. With the victory, the Eagles are now 8-1 on the season while the Lady Mountaineers fall to 2-4.

Emory started things off by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Freshman Daniella Moreno-Kaste and junior Paula Castro blanked Melissa Machado and Megan Mullen 6-0 in no.2 doubles and sophomores Anna Fuhr and Bridget Harding earned the win at no.1 doubles 6-3. Freshman Daniela Lopez and junior Katarina Suwere victorious in the no.3 doubles position 7-6.

In singles, Harding won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to win the no.1 singles point with freshman Taylor Cosme following with a 6-4, 6-3 straight set victory at the no.3 singles position. Junior Michelle Satterfield continued things, taking the no.2 singles point in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Senior Beatrice Rosen later earned the no.4 singles point in straight sets as well 7-6, 6-0 with classmate Madison Gordon closing out the match, winning the no.6 singles match 7-5, 6-1

Emory continues its road trip next weekend, taking on two more Division I foes in Montana State and Northern Arizona on Saturday, March 5th on the campus of Northern Arizona.

With the singles win, Beatrice Rosen moves into a tie for 17th place all-time with her 69th career victory.
