Emory Cruises Past Centre, Agnes Scott

The fourth-ranked Emory University women's tennis program had a dominant showing on Sunday against Centre and Agnes Scott, defeating both the Colonels and Scotties 9-0, to complete a perfect 4-0 weekend to improve to 13-2 on the season.

The Eagles began the day with the Colonels on the Woodruff PE Center courts. Sophomore Anna Fuhr and freshman Daniela Lopez won their fourth match in a row on the no.1 doubles court, winning by an 8-4 margin. On the no.2 doubles court, juniors Michelle Satterfield and Paula Castro paired up for an 8-0 victory as did junior Melissa Goodmanand freshman Daniella Moreno-Kaste for the no.3 doubles point.

In singles play, Emory won all six matches in straight sets and did not lose more than three games in any one set. Sophomore Bridget Harding won at no.1 singles 6-1, 6-0 and freshman Taylor Cosme earned a 6-3, 6-0 for the no.2 singles point. Senior Madison Gordon and Castro both won 6-0, 6-0 on the no.3 and 5 singles line while Fuhr and senior Marissa Levine had identical 6-1, 6-0 victories for the no.4 and 6 singles points.

Later in the day the Eagles faced Agnes Scott on the SAAC Courts on the Emory Clairmont campus. Emory made quick work of the Scotties as the team lost just four games total in the match.

All three doubles pairings for Emory won by an 8-0 count with Harding and junior Katarina Su snapping a five-match losing skid with a win for the no.1 doubles points with Satterfield/Castro picking up the no.2 doubles point and Cosme and senior Stephanie Loutsenko earning the win on the no.3 doubles court.

Satterfield and senior Beatrice Rosen won the top two singles matches with Satterfield winning 6-1, 6-1 and Rosen by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Su earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision on the no.3 singles line while Lopez dropped just one game in the second set in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Goodman and Lousenko closed things out for the Eagles with 6-0, 6-0 wins for the no.5 and 6 singles points.

Emory returns to action next weekend with the beginning of the Fab 5 Tournament. The Eagles will play #15 DePauw and #24 Trinity (TX) on Friday before battling #5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday. All matches will be played on the Woodruff PE Center.

Senior Beatrice Rosen moved into sole possession of 14th all-time with her 71st career victory while classmate Madison Gordon climbed into a tie for 18th all-time with her 69thcareer win…freshman Taylor Cosme became the first Eagle to win 20 singles matches this season…She now sits at 20-3 on the year and is currently in the midst of an eight-match winning streak.
