#1 Eagles Bounce Back With 4-1 Win Over Coastal Carolina

The #1 Emory University women's tennis program rebounded after taking the loss yesterday against Charleston Southern to defeat Coastal Carolina University 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Conway, S.C. The Eagles are now 18-3 on the season with three victories coming against Division I opponents. With the loss, the Chanticleers drop to 17-6.

The Eagles took the first two doubles matches to claim the doubles point in the match. Sophomore Anna Fuhr and freshman Daniela Lopez snapped a two-match losing skid to win on the no.1 doubles court 6-3 and junior Katarina Su and sophomore Bridget Harding won their sixth consecutive match together, winning on court no.2 6-1. Juniors Michelle Satterfield and Paula Castro were deadlocked at 4-4 in their match on the no.3 doubles court but went unfinished due to the results on the other two courts.

In singles play, Emory won three of the six matches to clinch the match. Harding picked up the win on the no.1 singles line in comeback fashion 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 and on court no.4, senior Beatrice Rosen earned the victory as her opponent had to retire due to an injury. Senior Madison Gordon continued her torrid pace of late, winning the no.6 singles match 6-3, 6-0 for her team-leading 11th straight victory.

In the other three singles matches, Su was defeated in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 on the no.5 singles line to give CCU their lone point of the match while Satterfield and freshman Taylor Cosme both went unfinished for the no.2 and no.3 singles points due to the other singles results.

The Eagles will be back in action with three matches against Middlebury, Skidmore and Bowdoin next weekend all on Middlebury's campus in the final tune up before the UAA Championships in Orlando, Fla. from April 22-24th.

With her 76th career victory, senior Beatrice Rosen tied Head Coach Amy Bryant for eighth place on Emory's all-time wins list…Senior Madison Gordon now sits tied for 12thplace all-time with her 73rd career singles win.
