The New York University women's tennis team, ranked #30 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated SUNY-Geneseo on Saturday, April 9, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.
The Violets (6-1) swept the visiting Kinghts (12-3) by a score of 9-0, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
"This was a good win for us," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Geneseo is a good team and we were able to prevail pretty easily."
Alice McGinty, competing in her first match of the spring season, partnered with Laila El Dessouki at #2 doubles and won convincingly with an 8-2 result. McGinty was also victorious at #6 singles with a score of 6-3, 6-2, while El Dessouki posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at #3 singles.
"It was nice to welcome Alice back to the lineup today and she was able to contribute with two points," continued Choy.
At #1 doubles, Carmen Lai partnered with Vanessa Scott for the first time this season, and the duo recorded an 8-5 victory.
"We mixed and matched a little in doubles due to illness," explained Choy. "All the teams still played well."
