The New York University women's tennis team competed at The College of New Jersey Invitational on Friday, September 11, in Ewing, NJ.

In their first action of the season, the Violets went 3-5 in doubles. The team went 2-2 in Flight A and 1-3 in Flight B.

Senior Carmen Lai and junior Laila El Dessouki followed up last year's successful campaign with a 8-5 win in their first match of the season.

Freshmen Alice McGinty and Vanessa Scott followed Lai and El Dessouki with a win of their own, recovering from an earlier loss to defeat TCNJ's Emma Allen and Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette 8-3 in the second round of Flight A.

"Alice and Vaessa showed a lot of resolve," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "They got off to a slow start in the first match, but played even the rest of the way. They then played better and won their second match."

Senior captain Madeline King and sophomore Nicole Schnabel picked up NYU's final win, defeating Danna Tsay and Alyssa Baldi 8-5 in Round 2 of Flight B.

"It was a good start to the season," added Choy.
