NYU Improves to 2-0 in Spring Duals

The New York University women's tennis team defeated William Smith College 7-2 on Friday night, March 4, in Geneva, NY. 

The Violets (2-0) have now started the spring dual season with consecutive victories after Friday's triumph over the Herons (1-2).

Carmen Lai (6-3, 6-3 at #1) and Flyora Shiyanova (6-1, 6-1 at #2) won their respective singles matches in straight sets, and also teamed up for an 8-4 victory at first doubles.

Vanessa Scott (6-3, 6-2 at #3) and Laila El Dessouki (6-3, 6-0 at #4) also teamed up for a doubles win. The pair defeated its opponents from Williams Smith 8-4 at second doubles.

"The girls had a slow start, but they really picked up their games," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "They came out strong in singles and dominated, winning five out of the six matches against some tough competition."

Madeline King was the other Violet to pick up a win, as the senior co-captain was victories at #5 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
