Maroons Top Carthage 9-0 on Day One of Midwest Invitational

The University of Chicago women's tennis team kicked off the two-day Midwest Invitational by beating Carthage College 9-0 on Friday.

The No. 15-ranked Maroons improved to 6-3 and dropped the Lady Reds to 13-4.

UChicago came into the 11-team bracket as the No. 2 seed and received a first-round bye. After Carthage topped Kalamazoo College 6-3 in the morning match, the Lady Reds geared up for the Maroons in the afternoon.

UChicago completed its second clean sweep of the season, winning all three doubles matches and all six singles bouts. The duos of sophomore Rachel Kim and Lucy Tang along with sophomores Ariana Iranpour and Courtney Warren did not surrender a game in doubles and captured 8-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively.

All six singles matches were taken in straight sets. Kim and junior Tiffany Chen stood out with perfect 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively. Iranpour, Kim, Tang and Chen were all multiple winners in singles and doubles on the day.
