Two University of Chicago women's tennis singles players advanced to the quarterfinal round at day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Saturday.

Freshman Rachel Kim and sophomore Ariana Iranpour won both their matches on the day to reach the quarterfinals in the main singles draw. Kim came in as the No. 10 seed and dispatched both her opponents in straight sets. Her second win of the day was a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over the No. 1 seed and defending ITA champion from Washington University-St. Louis. Iranpour, the No. 2 seed, made short work of her opposition. The sophomore lost only five out of 29 games in her two victories.

Four other players came into the day still alive in the draw. Senior Lucy Tang, freshman Kaela Bynoe and freshman Kat Stevanovich all finished 1-1 on the day and junior Tiffany Chen was eliminated in the round of 32.

In the Kalamazoo Collegiate Championships singles draw, freshman Adrienne Travis won twice more to move on to the consolation semifinal.

The three remaining Maroon doubles teams posted a 1-3 record. Bynoe and Kim advanced to the quarterfinal as the No. 6 seed, but lost in that round to the No. 3 seeds from Washington-St. Louis. The No. 7 seeds Iranpour and sophomore Courtney Warren and the pairing of Chen and Tang were both knocked out by seeded tandems in the round of 16.
