Chicago Earns Spot in NCAA postseason

The University of Chicago women's tennis teams earned an at-large berths into the NCAA Division III Tennis Championship for the eighth consecutive year on Monday.

The single-elimination tournament will feature the opening three rounds played at regional sites this weekend. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 23-28 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamzaoo, Mich. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 11.

In the women's draw, the Maroons were selected to the national tournament for the eighth-straight season and ninth time overall. All their postseason appearances have occurred since 2006. The women's team bracket is composed of 49 total teams at eight regional sites.

UChicago will travel to a seven-team regional on Thursday-Saturday, May 12-14 with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater serving as the host school. The Maroons received a first-round bye and will play on Friday against the winner of Gustavus Adolphus College (21-7) versus Wheaton College (18-1). The other half of the regional features Hope College (18-4) versus University of Northwestern-St. Paul (23-6), along with Wisconsin-Whitewater (22-5) versus College of St. Scholastica (19-6). The Maroons previously played Wisconsin-Whitewater on April 2 at the Midwest Invite and defeated the Warhawks 5-3.

UChicago's women are currently ranked No. 9 in the country with an 11-5 season record. They most recently took third place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in late April. The program has experienced great success in the tournament over the years, reaching the NCAA Round of 16 seven times in-a-row. The Maroons have an all-time postseason record of 18-11.
