Rochester Sweeps Nazareth For Third Consecutive Win

Rochester Sweeps Nazareth For Third Consecutive Win

From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester women's tennis team pulled back to .500 on the season after its second straight 9-0 victory, topping Nazareth College 9-0 at the Goergen Athletic Center on Tuesday.

The Yellowjackets now sit at 5-5 in dual competition on the year while the Golden Flyers drop to 9-8.  The match was originally scheduled to take place at Nazareth, but the winter weather forced play inside and Naz does not have on campus indoor courts at its disposal.

Five of UR's six singles players were double winners on the day.  Christine Ho, Camila Garcia, Molly Goodman, Alex Wolkoff and Lauren Zickar all won two matches on the day.

The two wins put UR's Goodman at 90 for her career combining singles and doubles play.  Her 48 singles victories pull her into a tie for 8th place on the all-time wins chart at Rochester.

The Yellowjackets got things started with an impressive sweep of doubles play.  Goodman and Darby McCall won 8-0 at #3 over Maeve Morgan and Elizabeth Karstedt and while that match was finishing up, Zickar and Wolkoff defeated Allison Friends and Carlee Hastings 8-1 at the #2 spot.  Completing the sweep, Ho and Garcia won 8-0 at #1 over Ami Petosa and Marisa Joyce.

Rochester kept rolling in singles with Garcia winning the first point at #2, topping Petosa 6-0, 6-1.  Goodman did not lose a game at #3, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Joyce for the clinching point.  At #1, Ho was a winner in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, over Friends.

Wolkoff then won at #4, 6-1, 6-1, over Hastings while Zickar won by that same score over Karstedt at #5.  Finishing off the match was the most competitive one of the night, with UR's Alyssa Gontzes winning 6-4, 7-5 over Morgan.
