Rochester Wins Close Match With William Smith, 5-4

The University of Rochester women's tennis team emerged victorious in a battle with William Smith College by a 5-4 score on Wednesday evening at Bristol Gymnasium.
 
The Yellowjackets (3-5) were led by freshman Camila Garcia who was the teams lone double winner on the night.  After trailing 2-1 after doubles, Rochester captured four of six singles matches to rally for the win.
 
Host William Smith (5-4) took the 2nd and 3rd doubles positions while Rochester's pair of Christine Ho and Garcia were 8-2 winners to kick off the match, beating Hannah More and Michaelann Denton.  The Herons got their doubles points from Alex Greenberg and Sydney Ferry at #2 and Alex Cattie and Connie Froass at #3.  Greenberg and Ferry defeated Molly Goodman and Lauren Zickar 8-2 while Cattie and Froass edged out an 8-6 win over Rochester's Alex Wolkoff and Darby McCall.
 
In singles, Garcia earned the opening point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 over Greenberg, evening the overall match at 2-2.  The Yellowjackets then jumped ahead after Wolkoff won 6-3, 6-0 at four over Froass.
 
William Smith's More then squared the match back up at 3-3 with a three set win over Ho at the top spot on the ladder.  More rallied after Ho won the first set, earning the match win by a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 score.
 
Rochester would then win points at #5 and #6 to win the match.  Zickar topped Ferry 6-0, 6-0 and McCall won the clincher 6-3, 6-2 over Cattie.  Rounding out the match, Denton topped Goodman at #3 in a long double tiebreak affair, winning 7-6 (1), 7-6 (3).
