Bears Land at No. 13 in ITA Fall Rankings

The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team enters the spring season ranked No. 13 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III Fall National Rankings.

Defending national champion Williams College earned the No. 1 ranking after finishing the 2014-15 season a perfect 25-0. The University Athletic Association (UAA) had six teams in the top-40 ranking – No. 2 Emory University, No. 6 Carnegie Mellon University, No. 13 WashU, No. 15 University of Chicago, No. 20 Case Western Reserve University, and No. 28 Brandeis University.

WashU was also ranked No. 1 in the Central Region after finishing the 2014-15 season with an 18-6 overall record. Head coach Kelly Stahlhuth, who is in her 11th season at the helm of the Bears' program, was selected as the 2015 Wilson/ITA Division III National Coach of the Year. A year ago, WashU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and finished fourth at the ITA Division III National Team Indoor Championships.

The Bears have two doubles teams ranked in the top-15 nationally after the fall season. Senior Aly Coran and junior Rebecca Ho are No. 2 in the Central Region and No. 10 nationally after winning the 2015 USTA/ITA Central Region title last month. Sophomore Grace Deering and junior Kaylan Griffith are third in the Central Region and No. 13 in the national ranking after finishing as the runner-up at the fall regional.

Ho also enters the spring season ranked No. 37 nationally in singles. She is No. 10 in the Central Region, while sophomore Kate Lee (17th) and Coran (tied for 23rd) are also in the top-25 of the regional ranking.

WashU is scheduled to face 10 teams in the top-30 of the fall national ranking during the spring season – No. 2 Emory, No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, No. 8 Bowdoin College, No. 12 Sewanee: University of the South, No. 14 DePauw University, No. 15 Chicago, No. 17 Wesleyan University, No. 18 University of Redlands, No. 20 Case and No. 26 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
