The Brandeis University women's tennis team got their 2017 spring trip to California on the right note with a 6-1 victory over CalTech. The match was played to decision as rain forced a late start between the 28th-ranked Judges (2-0) and Beavers (2-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES

  • Brandeis opened the match with a doubles sweep.
  • Sophomore Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and rookie Sabrina Ross Needgaard (Port Orchard, Wash. / Laurel Springs Prep) were 8-5 victors at #1.
  • Sophomores Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) took an 8-6 win at #2.
  • Classmates Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science)and Michele Lehat (Great Neck , N.Y. / John L. Miller Great Neck North) rounded out the sweep at #3, 8-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SINGLES

  • The Judges clinched the match relatively quickly at the top and bottom of the lineup. Ross Neergaard took a 6-2, 6-1, decision at #1
  • Lehat won by the same score at #6.
  • The only other match decided in Brandeis's favor came at #5, where He outlasted CalTech's Sophia Chen in a third-set super tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.
